Melbourne Convention + Visitors Bureau (MCVB) recognises the importance of environmentally sustainable practices and is constantly innovating to create new green tools for meeting and event planners. The organisation has implemented a range of initiatives, some of which are Convention Bureau firsts, which make planning a green event in Melbourne easier than ever.

MCVB Event Carbon Calculator

The organisation launched the MCVB Event Carbon Calculator in 2009, an online tool powered by the Carbon Reduction Institute - which calculates the carbon emissions of events held in Melbourne or Victoria. It offers advice on offsetting carbon emissions and reducing the carbon footprint of events. Visit: calculator.noco2.com.au/mcvb.

MCVB Green Incentive Website

In 2009, MCVB launched a green, low carbon impact incentive travel website, allowing planners to make an educated choice in their procurement and planning processes. The site includes Victoria's top ten green incentive activities, low carbon impact itineraries and advice on planning a green Business Event in Melbourne. Visit: www.mcvb.com.au/incentives/green.

Melbourne's 'Green Credentials' Report

MCVB's Melbourne's 'Green Credentials' Report identifies the green practices of Business Events suppliers to assist meeting and event planners, and provide working examples for other Business Events suppliers to follow. 

The report, launched in 2008, was the first by an Australian Convention Bureau and is now updated annually. The 2010 Report saw a 20 per cent increase in the number of participating businesses, with major improvements including the installation of water restrictors (up 18 per cent), and an increase in the creation of green teams or committees to guide initiatives (up 17 per cent).
